Castile and León
Castile and León is landlocked by mountains and our location conveniently adjoins the region to our south where today’s stage will be decided. After a little warm-up from our hotel, we’ll climb to today’s first climb Puerto Navacerrada and join race route. If you’d like some extra vertical metres and distance you can follow the race route and grab lunch at Rascafria. The race will climb the road between Rascafria and Puerto Navacerrada twice, so you have many options for viewing the race and accumulating your own mileage and vertical metres for the day.
Once the race passes for the second time, we will enjoy the downhill run back to our hotel. You are once again free this evening to enjoy one of the many restaurants in Segovia tonight.
TODAY IN THE RACE
Stage 18 – Colmenar Viejo to Becerril de la Sierra
The mountains return today, this time they may be classified as intermediate climbs, but climbs nonetheless. Today’s circuit is an out an back over the same terrain, making 4 climbs in total. Each climb is between 10 km and 15 km in length. This should give opportunities for teams to launch an attack on the General Classification leader. Expect a well executed team strategy to win (or defend) the day.
