We have a big day ahead with the Challenge Tour ride through the Fleurieu Peninsula. After an early breakfast at the hotel we will transfer those participating to the intermediate ride from Myponga 102km and the shorter ride start from Victor Harbor 62km. Those choosing the longer route will ride from the hotel to the start, an easy 8km warm-up pedal from the hotel. All rides finish in the historical town of Strathalbyn.
At the end of the Challenge Tour ride you’ll pass under the race finish arch, maybe pausing to take a photo of your achievement, before collecting your lunch and heading off to the finish area to see the race arrive later this afternoon. Once everyone has arrived and we’ve seen the race finish, it’s a short trip back to our hotel tired but happy.
For those not doing the Challenge Tour we’ll offer a ride around some of our favourite roads before arriving at the finish area in Strathalbyn, where you’ll be able to greet the riders as they arrive and catch the finish at the end today’s road stage.
If you’d like an easier day, we have an option to ride to the race start along the beaches of Adelaide. A stage start is your best opportunity to see the riders as they are introduced to the spectators and each rider signs on. After seeing the start, it is a short ride back to the hotel and you’ll have the afternoon to relax. If you’re travelling without the bike, we’ll drive you to the stage start. Following the start, we’ll head down to watch the stage finish.
Tonight is the Legends Night Dinner (optional extra)
Tonight the Santos Tour Down Under rolls out the red carpet and gives cycling fans the chance to glam up, celebrate and see cycling champions honoured at the annual Legends Night Dinner. This is a unique opportunity to see the big names of cycling and enjoy a great night out. The event is normally hosted by popular commentators Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen.
