We are mid-way through our trip. We’ve tackled some good climbs so far and with the biggest days ahead, we’ll take the opportunity to rest our legs a little today. We have a couple of ride options this morning, before you have the rest of the day relaxing in this beautiful historical town.
Our long ride still has some climbing, and tackles the Col du Stanley. We’ll set off toward Myrtleford passing a number of great wineries, of the King Valley region. We return along a short section of the aptly name Happy Valley and back over the Stanley range into Beechworth. There is still some climbing today, but we’ll be finished well before lunch.

Our easier ride will set off in the same direction before returning along some of the Murray to Mountains bike way. Our feature of today’s ride will be passing a number of the old kiln houses. After the gold rush, many Italian migrants moved to the area growing tobacco and the kiln houses were built to dry the tobacco. They also proved popular for drying salami. Italian food is still popular in the area. Many of the tobacco plantations have been replaced by an essential ingredient in beer; hops.
The earth is favourable for wine growers and producers alike as well as having a reliable water supply. Victoria’s North East region produces award winning food from its local producers. The afternoon is left free for you to enjoy Beechworth. Some shopping, dining, a visit the Bridge Road brewery or possibly try your hand at some gold panning.
