Adelaide Beaches sunset
Before the sunsets, ride to the Adelaide beaches.

Arrive today in Adelaide, one of Australia’s great cities. Once known as the city of churches, now it has a thriving arts and culture scene and hosts some big sporting events, including the Santos Tour Down Under. Arrive before lunchtime and you will be able to join us on our short afternoon ride.

Your staff will meet you at the Adelaide Airport, and transfer you to our Adelaide Hotel. Our team mechanic will assist you with assembling your bike as we prepare for our afternoon ride to the beaches. This evening we will make our way to the track carnival for an action-packed evening watching the close wheel action of the track. Not for the faint-hearted as riders rocket around the steeply banked timber boards.

  • Action-packed evening at the Velodrome
  • Ride the Adelaide Beaches

This afternoon we head through the city and follow the great Torrens Bikeway to the Adelaide Beaches. As we depart the city we pass the iconic West End brewery and enjoy the shaded bikeway as it snakes its way to the beach. We then make our way to Henley Beach, with its famous jetty and many cafes. We’ll return to the city via Glenelg.

Birds’ eye view at Mt Lofty Ranges and a visit to beautiful Stirling

Wednesday, 20 January 2021
Adelalide, South Australia
Breakfast, Winery Lunch
View of Adelaide
Fully supported along the best ride routes

This morning we can enjoy a leisurely breakfast as we fuel up for our ride to the Mt Lofty Ranges. We have a late-lunch commitment this afternoon at a local winery. You’ll surely have an appetite by then, the guilty-free pleasures of riding.

Departing from Adelaide, we will first visit Stirling at the top of the South Eastern freeway. Rest assured, there is a fantastic bikeway adjacent to the freeway that gives us a route mostly away from traffic. For those wanting to stretch the legs a little more, we have a couple of extensions that you can choose that discover the most scenic roads around Stirling. We’ll have time for multiple coffee stops and regroup at Mt Lofty Lookout for a birds’ eye view of Adelaide.

After our ride, we enjoy a multiple course lunch, with accompanying wines at a local winery. Our welcome lunches at the Santos Tour Down Under have always been a highlight for our guests.

  • Mt Lofty Ranges
  • Lunch at Mt Lofty Winery
  • Visit the beautiful town of Stirling

Our ride has a gradual incline as we depart the city of Adelaide. The SE Freeway bikeway goes past the Eagle on the Hill Mountain Bike park, that we’ll visit later this week. As we reach the summit at Crafers, our challenge and short ride options split before we regroup for coffee at Mt Lofty.

Discover the secrets of Barossa Valley

Thursday, 21 January 2021
Adelaide, South Australia
Bikestyle Prime location
Gourmet Lunches on stage route

Another fuelling breakfast this morning before we head north of Adelaide to the Barossa Valley. We’ll target the finish of today’s opening stage of the National Road Series race. We get two races each day, first the women’s event followed by the men. As you will see in this exciting format, the intensity between women’s and men’s racing is very similar.

Our journey to the Barossa takes a safe route through the Northern suburbs of Adelaide before climbing up to Kersbrook and Williamstown. We’ll be able to tick along in our own small peloton. Before reaching Lyndoch, we will detour to the intriguing Whispering Wall where your silent whispers are magnified by the dam wall, clever acoustic addition to an otherwise standard civil project. After testing the acoustics we ride through the Barossa Vineyards arriving for the finish of the women’s race.

We have your entry to the finish area secured today, so you’ll have exclusive access to the best coverage of today’s races.

  • Visit the Whispering Wall
  • Finish of stage 1 National Road Series race

Our ride starts with the impressive structure of the Adelaide Cathedral and the infamous Adelaide Oval. We’ll cruise through the trendy cafe precincts of North Adelaide before climbing up to Williamstown. Our visit to the Whispering Wall gives us an extra climb before we join the great Barossa Vines bike trail to take us into Tanunda.

Adelaide Hills explorer and Cross Country Mountain Bike event

Friday, 22 January 2021
Adelaide, South Australia
Breakfast, Picnic Lunch
Adelaide rolling hills

Some of our favourite rides involve Paracombe, Inglewood, Cudlee Creek, Uraidla and of course Lobethal. With the finish in Lobethal today and another exclusive access to the finish in a winery, we will explore our favourite roads in the Adelaide Hills.

Whether you’re a non-cyclist or cyclist today, exploring the Adelaide Hills has something for everyone. After seeing the women’s and men’s races, we will return via Uraidla and Crafers to watch the exciting mountain bike event. The cross country short track event will have some great technical sections as well as difficult climbs and gnarly descents. Based on the longer XCO format, the shorter laps makes for great spectating.

  • Ride the amazing Cudlee Creek
  • Stage 2 of the National Road Series race
  • Cross country short track event

Our feature ride will climb to Cudlee Creek through Paracombe before reaching Lobethal. We also have shorter and more direct options if you’d like an easier day.

Magnificent McLaren Vale, Old Willunga Hill and Cyclocross

Saturday, 23 January 2021
Adelaide, South Australia
Breakfast, Picnic Lunch
Richie Porte Stage Finish Willunga Hill
Prime access to Santos Tour Down Under

Richie Porte’s timing for Adelaide has always been his strength. Richie’s new team for 2021 (Ineos Grenadier) have given him permission to ride for the Australian National Team rather than return to Europe for the start of 2021. We are sure he is keen to defend yet another title for Old Willunga Hill. See the start of today’s stage from the exclusive location of the d’Arenberg Cube before watching the finish on Old Willunga Hill from a prime vantage location.

For our third cycling event today, we will return to Adelaide for the electric Cyclocross event. The lung-busting circuit has developed the fitness, strength and skill of the most exciting international cyclists. One of the most exciting finishes in the World Tour in 2020 was that between young foes Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert – they both hold world titles in cyclocross.

  • Stage start in McLaren Vale
  • Watch the actions on Willunga Hill
  • See the electric Cyclocross event, Adelaide

Our rides today have an alternative for the hilly or flat route to the start in McLaren Vale. We will have great vantage from the middle of the great Shiraz producing region before heading to Old Willunga Hill for the race to the summit finish.

An action packed criterium for a final stage and the mayhem of BMX racing

Sunday, 24 January 2021
Adelaide, South Australia
Enjoying the Adelaide Hills
Ride the Adelaide Hills and Spot a Koala

We have much of today available for riding our bikes or touristic activities. Our ride will take in some beautiful roads with a high possibility for spotting koalas. We will then head for the coast where we can catch the action at the BMX track.

We’ll have you back in Adelaide in time to change and wander down to the evening’s criterium event and the final stage to the Festival of Cycling. With intermediate sprint and premium ‘premes’ on offer, the 60-minute circuit will be high speed, high action and will certainly have its drama. Who will take the crown of the National Road Series stage race?

  • Crowning of the National Road Series race winners
  • The final ride in the Adelaide Hills
  • Watch the BMX track event

Our ride heads into the Adelaide Hills, taking us some of the lesser-known roads. This does not mean that they are not great cycling roads! Our ride finishes with a descent to the coast for a coffee or cool drink, whichever you prefer. The rolling hills south of Adelaide are rich with koala activity, so we’ll take it easy, enjoy the scenery and hopefully spot a furry friend.
