Tour de France Femmes Trip Summary
Ride stages of the 2022 Tour de France Femmes avec Swift
Experience the inaugural Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift with our carefully planned itinerary. Ride various sections of the stages and watch the professional women attack the course afterwards. Enjoy a relaxed and supportive tour group staying at quality hotels in the Champagne region of France and on the Alsace wine route.
Our hotels are centrally located to connect with the race on multiple days to experience the quality racing that the women’s peloton deliver. See the steep pinches to launch their attacks, stage finishes for the sprinters and the long climbs for the general classification riders. Our rides have multiple options for you to choose and our accommodation is set in great touristic areas, quiet country villages, or convenience for our rides for you to experience the French culture, such as a local market, or some history.
What will you see following a women’s professional cycling race?
We’ve always loved to watch the women’s professional peloton. Unlike the men, the teams are smaller and the overall peloton is smaller, so tactics play an even more important role. Stages are shorter, so riders will attack at every opportunity to gain an advantage on the peloton. Shorter stages have become so popular that the men’s event is following this pattern to make stages more intriguing to spectators. The ability for riders to break the watchful chase of the peloton is much less, so racing tends to be much closer.
The 2022 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift event has a clever course and the highlights will be the sprints in the first two stages before the competition is thrown open to some of the stronger climbers with two intriguing stages around the champagne region. One of the finishing circuits is into Epernay, where the riders will ride the steep pinch between Ay and Mutigny, on the same roads where Julian Alaphilippe launched a remarkable attack in 2019 on stage 3 of the Tour de France. On the following day, the women will be challenged by the gravel stone roads through multiple wineries as well as the steep pinches, stage 4 will be an incredible stage to watch. The ladies then have some longer stages and transfer to the Vosges mountains, where the mountains are Ballons, for their circular shape. We will follow the race and ride the significant climbs while staying at our spa resort hotel on the Alsace wine route. The race finishes on the famous climb to La Planche Des Belles Filles Super.

There is no better way to see the city without the crowds, in our ride along the Seine. Notre Dame, Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower are all on our course.
Popping the French Champagne

We transfer from Paris today and will see the stage finish in Provins.
A stage for the sprinters, we will arrive at the arrival village at the gates of Champagne in plenty of time to ride ourselves on the course before we freshen up and await the arrival of the women.
After the race, we will transfer to our hotel for the next 3 nights, in the heart of the French Champagne region. We will enjoy dinner together this evening.
DAILY HIGHLIGHTS
- See the Stage 2 finish for the sprinters in Provins
- Ride the course before the peloton arrives
- Transfer to the famous Champagne region of France
Our ride will take in the key moments of the finishing circuit around Provins. We will have a longer option also to explore the region that has hosted the Tour de l’Avenir before.
Tour de France Femmes in the heart of Champagne

Ride through the Champagne region before the arrival of the race
The finishing circuit is one we know well. One of the most incredible stage victories in recent years of the Tour de France took place on these roads. The Cote de Mutigny from Ay is a steep road at more than 12% and is the ideal spot to launch an attack, but the rider will need to hold off the peloton for a further 15km to take the victory. This will be one of the most interesting stages to watch.
DAILY HIGHLIGHTS
- Ride through the Champagne region
- Visit Champagne houses
- Watch the stage finish into Epernay
We can spend the morning exploring the champagne region by bike and have lunch. We will catch up with the race on the final circuit to see who will take victory into Epernay, near the champagne house of Moet.
The chalk roads of Champagne

Another exciting finish, but a much-depleted peloton.
Today is one of the most interesting course designs with many steep pinches through the stage and punctuated by many long chalk-road sections along the gravel. The race should be well split apart and will favour those who do well in the spring classics of Ronde van Vlaanderen and Fleche Wallonne.
We will return to our hotel this evening for our last night in the Champagne region and enjoy a celebratory dinner together.
DAILY HIGHLIGHTS
- Ride through champagne
- See the exciting stage 4 through gravel road sections
We will ride along some of the chalk roads through the champagne wineries that the ladies will encounter before they reach the finish in Bac-sur-Aube. We will watch the depleted peloton arrive and witness the presentation near the stage finish.
Stage start before departing Champagne

Stage start before departing for the Alsace wine route.
We will ride from our hotel after breakfast and arrive for the stage start in Bar-le-Duc. This is a great opportunity to catch the riders as they prepare for the day’s stage. Take your selfie with the riders and make your friends home jealous of where you are.
After seeing the rider’s off, we will make our main transfer on this trip in our luxury coach to the Alsace region, a spectacular region on the border of France, Germany and Switzerland. Our accommodation for the next 4 nights is a spa hotel on the sundrenched slopes of the Vosges mountains, a delightful location.
DAILY HIGHLIGHTS
- Ride to stage start
- Transfer to Alsace
We will follow the Marne river to today’s stage start. We also have a shorter ride option for those not wanting to ride the full distance.
Tour of the Ballons, Vosges Mountains

We will have a day away from the race and ride the Vosges mountains.
We will jump ahead to tomorrow’s stage and have a look at some of the climbs that the women will race on. The main climb today for us will be the Petit Ballon. It was in this area that Alberto Contador abandoned his 2014 Tour de France with a broken leg. The women will complete 3 big climbs tomorrow, we will break that over two days and cover two of them today.
DAILY HIGHLIGHTS
- Ride the Vosges mountains
- Petit Ballon
We will climb over two of the climbs in tomorrow’s schedule, Petit Ballon, 9.3km at 8.1% and the Col du Platzerwasel, 7.1km at 8.3%. They are demanding climbs, but we have all day to complete our ride. We will have shorter options available to those who would like.
Grand Ballon in the Vosges mountains

See the stage finish to the Grand Ballon.
Today we will ride to the stage finish, which takes us up the Grand Ballon. There are multiple ways to reach the summit, we descended one of those yesterday. We will take a more scenic route through the forest from the eastern side, and join the race route for the final 6km of the climb. After reaching the summit we can roll down to the finish area to watch the stage finish.
DAILY HIGHLIGHTS
- Stage finish on Grand Ballon
- Ride the legendary climb of the Vosges Mountains
Grand Ballon on race day. The Grand Ballon is equivalent in length to riding Col du Tourmalet, but not quite as steep. The first 10 km before joining the race route averages 5% and is on a quiet road through the forest. You’d easily be mistaken for being in the Black Forest, for it is only a stone’s throw from where we are.
Finale on La Super Planche Des Belles Filles

Tour finale on the classic climb to La Planche Des Belles Filles
Riders have become legends on the climb to Belles Filles. It is the opportunity for the women’s peloton to create new folklore. Their 8 stage race through France finishes today, marking the end of the inaugural Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. I am sure that you will agree, we need to support women’s racing more and more for these professional athletes to entertain and inspire more people.
We will ride the finish climb before watching the finish. After the final presentations, we will return to our Spa hotel for our final evening together and celebrate our achievements, as well as those of the Professional Women’s peloton.
DAILY HIGHLIGHTS
- Ride La Super Planche des Belles Filles
- Watch the final stage of the Tour de France Femmes avec Swift
- Farewell Dinner including wine.
Ride La Planche Des Belles Filles a 7 km climb at 8.7% but with multiple pinches above 10%. The final pinches to La Super are above 20% and involve sections on gravel. This will be a lung burner.
Au Revoir, Merci Beaucoup
