Grand Depart in Nice and First Summit Finish in the Alps – Trip Itinerary
Bienvenue, Welcome to Cote d’Azur
Our trips starts from Nice, Cote d’Azur airport and for the next 5 nights we are staying in a charming village in the French Riviera with great access to the surrounding mountains. Join us for a warm up ride this afternoon to test our equipment before our welcome dinner.
Col de la Madone and Team Presentations
Immerse in the fanfare of the Tour de France. Nice’s shorefront will be electric as teams and riders are introduced to fans. Though, this morning we’ll challenge ourselves on Col de la Madone. The climb is a little over 14 kilometres long and starts moderate before you’re on a consistent grade, nothing more than 10% and an average of 6%
Exploring the French Riviera
Our strategic location gives us exclusive access to beautiful cycling roads. Simple itinerary for the day - eat, ride and relax. Our rides depart from and return to our hotel and give you time to enjoy the French Riviera way of life
Stage 1, Grand Depart Nice
Our wait is finally over! Today, riders depart on the 107th Tour de France. There are multiple viewing opportunities today for us to chase the Tour de France. Our riders will be able to ride to the course circuit and see the race 3 times and our non-riders will travel in our supporter van.
Stage 2, For the Climbers
The 3 greatest fan experiences at the Grand Tours are the stage start, stage finish and a mountain stage. Today we will experience 2 of these. Our short coast ride along the Mediterannean and our climbers ride will finish in Nice for today’s Start and Finish. Have a dip in the ocean, stay cool.
Entering the French Alps
Travel through the perfumes of Lavender to reach the high alps, within the Ecrins national park. A short stopover in Gap for lunch and possibly a little shopping. Our rides today will finish in Gap or an extension onto our hotel positioned for tomorrow's first alpine stage.
First Summit Finish
The first key stage and summit finish of the tour is near our hotel, so we see the race on the final climb. The race on a mountain is the most iconic aspect of the Tour de France, so being the final climb today, will be spectacular.
Catch the race once more before we arrive in Provence. Fields of lavender, olive groves, sounds of cicadas and in-season apricots. You have the option to see another stage start in Gap, or ride a little further over a climb and see them on route to Provence.
Final Climb on Mont Ventoux
Conquer the famed climb Mont Ventoux, it is the giant of Provence. See the lavender fields and finish your trip along one of the most scenic roads in France. Take the classic ascent starting from Bedoin – 23km long, averaging more than 8%. The unique moonscape near the summit numbs the pain.
Bon Voyage and Farewell from Grand Depart
It has been an incredible 10 days in the South of France. We have a single transfer this morning to Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport, arriving at about 1pm. Thank you to our new friends and see you again – soon.

Ride Tour de France course, the final 2 weeks
Our 2020 Grand Depart Tour de France trip has limited transfers, more time to relax on your cycling holiday so that you can ride more often. See the fanfare of the team presentations ahead of the 3 week Tour of France bike race. You’ll be able to ride sections of the course before it is raced.
After Nice we follow the race as it enters the French Alps and watch the race on the first summit finish for the tour. To finish your trip in style, we will climb the giant of Provence and ride Mont Ventoux.
Every mountain region and big climbs every week of the Tour
Nervous energy surrounds the riders during the first week of the Grand Tour, especially the Tour de France. Nice hosts the Grand Depart of the 107th edition and will deliver hilly profiles for stages 1 and 2. It will disrupt tradition and make the 2020 yellow jersey, awarded to the overall leader on general classification, even harder to win.
