10 days riding across Japan. Could you describe it in just 3 words? 🇯🇵

We put our guests on the spot at the end of our Japan Sea to Summit Tour.

Here’s what they said. 😂🚴

What a way to finish our Japan Sea to Summit Tour!

What a way to finish our Japan Sea to Summit Tour! 🇯🇵🚴

Japan certainly saved some of its best weather for our final day on the bikes. Brilliant sunshine, beautiful coastal roads and one last ride together as we made our way from Cape Sada towards Matsuyama.

Following the coastline along the Iyo Sea, we rolled through small fishing villages, quiet seaside communities and some wonderful stretches of road overlooking the water.

And of course, Japan had a few more surprises waiting for us.

We came across a local octopus fisherman going about his morning, one of those unexpected encounters that makes exploring a country by bike so rewarding. 🐙

We also stopped at the famous Shimonada Station, a tiny railway station overlooking the sea and one of Japan’s most photographed coastal spots. Not a bad place for a few final group photos!

Then it was back on the bikes for the final push into Matsuyama, bringing our riding journey through Shikoku to a close.

From mountain roads and river valleys to tiny villages, incredible food, traditional onsens and spectacular coastlines, Japan has delivered plenty of memorable moments.

But as always, it’s the people you share the roads with that make the experience.

One last ride, plenty of sunshine and a fantastic group of people. What a way to finish!

Some days on the bike are pretty hard to beat. ☀️🇯

Some days on the bike are pretty hard to beat. ☀️🇯🇵

Today was certainly one of them!

Brilliant weather, quiet coastal roads and spectacular ocean views as we made our way along the rugged Sada Peninsula towards the westernmost point of Shikoku.

Starting from Yawatahama, we followed the coastline past little fishing villages and harbours, with the road constantly rising and falling above the Uwa Sea.

Around every corner, another view worth stopping for.

After 90km of fantastic riding, we finished near Cape Sada, with a short walk out towards the cape and sweeping views across the Bungo Channel towards Kyushu.

And because this is Japan, there’s always a pretty good way to finish the day.

A traditional Japanese onsen, a hot soak for the legs and another great dinner with the group. ♨️

Great roads, great company and a bit of sunshine. What more could you ask for?

Another day in Japan, another reminder that the best cycling roads aren’t always the famous ones. 🇯🇵🚴

Leaving the historic town of Ozu, we followed the Hijikawa River deeper into the countryside of southern Ehime.

Quiet riverside roads, little farming villages, forested mountains and some beautiful bridge crossings along the way.

The sort of riding where you’re happy to keep turning the pedals just to see what’s around the next corner.

After 90km in the saddle, we rolled into Narukawa Gorge, where the reward was waiting.

Our own private onsen. ♨️

Not a bad way to finish another day on our Japan Sea to Summit Tour.

And a pretty good reminder that a cycling holiday is about much more than the kilometres.

Some days on a cycling tour just keep getting better. ❤️

After a steady climb to start the day, we hit one of those roads you don’t want to end, around 40km of predominantly downhill riding through the gorge towards Ozu.

Quiet roads, forest, rivers, small Japanese communities and plenty of time just letting the bikes roll.

And waiting at the bottom?

Ozu, a beautiful historic castle town on the banks of the Hijikawa River, and our home for the night at Nipponia Hotel Ozu, with its restored buildings spread throughout the old town.

A pretty good way to finish a day on the bike. 🇯🇵🚴
